INSPIRING CONFIDENCE AND HELPING YOUR CHILD DEVELOP A LOVE OF MUSIC!

We currently offer flute, clarinet, saxophone, and piano lessons in your home.  Learn more about each instrument below:

Flute

The flute is a member of the woodwind family.  With its beautiful tone and wide range of repertoire, the flute is a popular choice for students of all ages.  We generally recommend students begin flute at age 10, so that they have the physical strength to hold the instrument, as well as the lung capacity required for tone production.

We have an assortment of method books that we use with students depending on age.  These include the Suzuki MethodStandard of ExcellenceTradition of ExcellenceEssential Elements, and Rubank methods.  We'll advise parents on selecting materials that are most in-line with individual interests, so that students will feel enthusiastic and excited.

Teaching is a collaborative effort, and we work closely with students and their parents to design an effective curriculum to meet their personal goals.  We believe that if you want to achieve something, your will and determination, coupled with the right guidance, will help you get there.  We don't think any goal is out of reach.  Because of this, we have high expectations for each and every student, and we provide targeted strategies and constant encouragement to enable you to confidently progress toward your goal.  We tailor lessons to each student's unique needs.  As a result, our students feel lessons are interactiveenrichingand FUN

Clarinet

piano

The piano is the most fundamental of all the musical instruments.  Enrolling in piano lessons at an early age allows you to build a solid foundation in music.  Music lessons help children become self-disciplined and goal-oriented, qualities which will enhance academic performance and career success.  In addition, elementary and middle-school students who have a background in piano find it much easier to learn a second instrument for the school band or orchestra.

We generally recommend students begin private piano lessons at age 5, so that they will have the attention span to focus for a regular 30-minute lesson.  There are a variety of piano method books that we use, and we will work with students and parents to select music that is most in-line with individual interests, so that students will feel enthusiastic and excited.

Saxophone

Music Theory

Having a basic understanding of music theory is essential for the developing musician.  You can think of music as a language; the notes are like the letters of the alphabet, and the chords and chords are like the words, sentences, and paragraphs.  If we zoom out even more, the form of the music (sonata-allegro, rondo, theme and variations) is like an essay or story.  Music theory provides the building blocks of music, in the same way that words and phrases are the building blocks of language.  Being able to analyze the theory of a piece you're studying is essential to helping you perform it expressively.

Sight Singing and Ear Training

Going hand in hand, sight singing and ear training are essential for the development of melodic and rhythmic accuracy.  If you can sight sing a melody, you'll be able to play it more in tune.  If you can recognize melodic intervals and rhythmic variations, you'll be able to learn new music quicker.

Music History

Spanning medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and 20th Century eras, music history introduces you to the people, places, and events that shaped Western music today.  In order to play a piece of music convincingly, you often need to know stylistic practices of the era, as well as listen to other music written by the same composer.  Understanding music history and the circumstances surrounding the piece you're playing will help give "life" to the notes on the page.
